· India ended
day five of Rio 2016 Olympics on an optimistic note as boxer Manoj Kumar won
his first round against London Olympics bronze medallist) Evaldas Petrauskas in
the men’s light welter weight 64kg category on Wednesday.
· In what was
savagely challenged session, Manoj won 2-1 notwithstanding a forceful play from
Petrauskas in each of the three rounds.
· In the first
round, Manoj utilized his long range to counter Petrauskas' forceful style of
boxing. The short proximity strategy didn't help Petrauskas as the judges ruled
cycle one to support Manoj.
Shiva Thapa, the third Indian boxer in Rio 2016 Olympics,
will begin his campaign on Thursday in the bantamweight category.
