Today morning Wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt shared his jubilation with a tweet and made the day for 1.25 billion Indians. The bronze medal he had won at the 2012 London Olympics has been upgraded to silver.
The silver medallist from Russia - Besik Kudukhov has been left bereft off his medal after he failed his dope test. The twist to the tale however, is that Kudukhov died at the young age of 27 in 2013 following a fatal car accident.
The Russian has been found positive in the dope test conducted by the World Anti-Doping Agency. This is not an unusual practice, since the rules of the Anti –Doping Agency allow for testing to be done on preserved samples within a period of 10 years after collection of the sample.
Yogeshwar Dutt will now join Sushil Kumar to become the second Silver medallist to emerge from the 2012 London Olympics.
Rio 2016 may have been disappointing for Yogeshwar Dutt but this news comes as some consolation to the wrestler. This upgraded medal takes the whole tally of total medals own in the 2012 olympics to 4 Silver and 2 bronze medals.
