Puducherry AIR turns 50!



All India Radio (AIR), Puducherry, stepped into the golden jubilee year on Friday September 23rd 2016. It was commissioned on September 23, 1967 on the Beach Road (now called Goubert Avenue) by the then Information and Broadcasting Minister Nandini Satpathi.

Having its unique broadcast in Tamil, French, Hindi and Sanskrit languages, AIR, Puducherry, has a listenership base of nearly 76 lakh covering the Union Territory of Puducherry and districts of Cuddalore, Villupuram and Tiruvannamalai in Tamil Nadu. It is broadcast in the frequency of 1215 Khz.

AIR, Puducherry, broadcasts programmes on literature, agriculture, women, children, youth, science, sports, industrial workers, drama and music.

Many eminent personalities from different fields of literature, science, drama and medicine have shared their information to the general public through this public broadcaster.


P.Prabhakaran, Assistant Director (P) and Programme Head, in a press statement said: “On this occasion, a mention must be made that AIR, Puducherry, is broadcasting regular programmes on health education inviting the doctors from JIPMER every Fridays at 8.30 am and every Thursdays on FM Rainbow with frequency of 102.8 mtrs at 6.45 a.m. This programme is broadcast even on AIR, Karaikal, every Fridays at 1.30 pm.”
